I'm gonna turn you on to one of the best fics I've read regarding Dawn's keyness: antennapedia's Fenrisulfr (http://antennapedia.com/stories/ed_helios_hyperion_fenrisulfr.html). It's post-series, Ethan/Dawn.

Ooh, another fantastic fic (very, very long, but well worth it) is nwhepcat's Kindred Spirits (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=nwhepcat&keyword=dawn/ethan&filter=all). Also Ethan/Dawn post-series.
